Plumbing advice:
When you go on holidays we suggest that you shut your water.
This way you are not going to come back home with a swimming pool in the basement.
Leave the heat on to slightly above freezing (in winter months).
If you have cast iron pipes, you might want to do a visual check if you can see them.
You are looking for worn down and or rusted connections.
To change all your pipes from cast iron to PEX would be cheaper than from cast iron to copper.
If the water flows slowly it might be that the inside wall of your cast iron pipes are getting clogged due to erosion and not letting enough water go through.
PEX Definition:
PEX is a cross-linked polyethylene thermosetting material, which is widely used, in plumbing applications. PEX is a flexible, durable or tubing that is used for hot and cold water supply lines.
