You will need to calculate the surface of your roof to determine the amount of bundles required. (Click here to download our shareware program)
Most bundles can cover 32 sq/ft which represents about a 4 by 8 foot surface.
You can see on one of the pictures that there are blue tarps on the walls of two houses.
These tarps will protect both homes when all the shingles starts coming down.
I recommend removing one side of the roof shingles at a time, in case the temperature changes or it starts to rain.
Once you have the old shingles removed you will need to take out the old nails and fix the roof if needed.
For the valley and flashing you might have to change the aluminum if there are too many holes.
Next step is to install the membrane for ice and water. This membrane is required only for the first 3 feet of the edge of the roof.
In one of the pictures you will notice that the membrane was originaly partially put on.
These membranes must overlap each other at each end and everything in between should be covered. If there is a chimney stack, then go around it.
The first layer of the shingles are installed upside down.
Now you can install all the shingles beginning from the bottom of the roof and working toward the top.
Once both sides are completed you can finish the roof ridge.
You will notice on these pictures that this roof has 4 sides, therefore 4 ridges plus the top of the roof.
Last thing to do is to tar around the chimney stack, vents or pipes that are part of the roof.
