On this page we will be talking about staircase.
  • Before we started to create the staircase we needed to measure the length, width and height of the area on where the staircase would be situated.
  • Once you have those measurements then you can start cutting your lumber.
  • I would recommend fastening your stringer first. Then you can position the top and bottom stairs in place.
  • Now you need to make sure that all three stringers are level with each other.
  • In older homes the edge of the floor by the wall would have not moved over the years, but the center of the floor of the room more than likely would have sagged.
  • I have seen a difference of up to 3 inches between the edge of the room and the middle.
  • Once those two stairs are level, then they can be fastened down.
  • I suggest using one finishing nail on each stringer and also at the top back of the stair.
  • My next step is to use one screw on each stringer and at the edge of the stairs.
  • Then your stairs will have a very nice finish since the screws are hidden.

The use of space is limited in this home so we created a closet under the staircase.
