On this page we will be talking about installing windows from scratch.
  • For the windows we decided to go with two different models.
  • One is a slider and the other is an awning.
  • The reason was that if it gets too warm on the second floor, we can insert a window air conditioner if required.
  • Now that we have established the type of windows to be used, we can begin the process.
  • The opening for a window should be one inch more than the total size of the window.
  • This allows room to level the window.
  • The next step was to insert some 2 by 4's to support the ceiling and wall. Then we opened the wall.
  • This house is made of stucco so we needed a 4.5 inch grinder with a diamond turbo blade.
  • The cut took about 30 minutes to create a 40 by 36 inch hole.
  • Once the opening was complete we were able to insert the windows.
  • After the window was installed we used expanding foam to seal all around the window area.
  • Then we did the moulding on the inside.
  • This type of window came with the brick moulding already built into the window making our installation much easier.

  • This window was installed at another location.
The difference between these two scenarios beside the size of the window was the thickness of the wall.
